Flibe Energy, Inc. (FEI), an advanced nuclear reactor development company, has announced that David Hanson will be its new Chief Executive Officer. Hanson, who joined FEI in 2019 as a director and became the COO in 2022, will work closely with Founder Kirk Sorensen to lead the company’s vision and strategy.

Hanson has a background in datacenter and infrastructure engineering, having worked at Amazon.com for over a decade and Smartsheet.com as Head of Operations and Chief Information Security Officer. He left Smartsheet in 2018 after its successful IPO and joined FEI to pursue his passion for solving climate and energy issues.

Hanson said he was honored by the trust and confidence of Sorensen and the board, and expressed his conviction that liquid-fueled nuclear reactors, like LFTR, are the key to a sustainable, independent, energy future. He also said he was eager to collaborate with the team and the partners to complete the first of many reactors to come.

Hanson, a native of Seattle, lives in Madison, AL with his wife and two sons. FEI expects his business, finance, and management expertise to be a critical asset as they embark on this next phase of reactor development.
