BRECKSVILLE- Avandra Health, which operates the world’s largest federated network for medical imaging and clinical data, announced the acquisition of DatCard Systems and Sorna Corporation in a move to create a leading platform that serves both clinical care and medical research.
The combined company aims to bridge a critical gap in healthcare by integrating DatCard and Sorna’s capabilities in secure clinical data sharing between providers with Avandra’s platform for aggregating de-identified patient data. The financial terms of the deals were not disclosed.
This integration is designed to unlock the vast potential of medical imaging data, which is often siloed and difficult for researchers to access, to fuel advancements in medical research, artificial intelligence development, and clinical innovation.
DatCard is a market-leading supplier of DICOM distribution solutions with over 4,800 installations of its PacsCube™ product worldwide. Sorna Corporation is a pioneer in automated medical data distribution, trusted by major health systems for over 25 years with its flagship Vertex Platform.
Collectively, the two acquired companies serve the majority of Academic Medical Centers in the United States, including over half of the National Cancer Institute sites.
“By bringing together DatCard, Sorna, and Avandra, we’re creating the industry’s first comprehensive medical imaging platform that serves both immediate patient care needs and long-term research innovation,” said Ryan Tarzy, CEO of Avandra Health.
Tarzy assured customers that the products and services they rely on would continue without interruption, delivered by the same teams. Both DatCard and Sorna will operate as independent companies under the Avandra brand, with plans for substantial investment in new product development and customer support.
Avandra was co-founded in 2024 by Aegis Ventures and Tarzy with the goal of organizing the world’s medical imaging data to enable earlier diagnosis and new treatments. Its federated network provides a data marketplace for biopharma companies, researchers, and AI developers.
Cyrus Samari, Founder of Sorna Corporation, who will now serve as a Senior Advisor to Avandra, cited the company’s “forward-looking vision” as a key reason for the combination.
