Former Twitch CEO Emmett Shear will join OpenAI as its new leader, following the abrupt departure of Sam Altman, according to a confirmed report by CNBC.

Shear’s appointment comes amid a turbulent weekend at the prominent artificial intelligence startup. On Friday night, OpenAI’s board announced that it had removed Altman from his role and temporarily replaced him with Mira Murati, the chief technology officer.

The board said that Altman had failed to be “consistently candid in his communications with the board.”
