Apple Music Voice Plan, which was the most affordable way to access Apple Music, is being discontinued. Apple announced that the $4.99 per month plan, which was launched in 2021 and allowed users to listen to any song from the Apple Music catalog using Siri, will no longer be available. This means that the lowest-priced Apple Music subscription for most users is now $10.99 (students can still get it for $5.99). What does this mean for existing Voice Plan subscribers?

Apple says that it will stop auto-renewing the Voice Plan for current users, but they can still enjoy their plan until the end of their billing cycle. Those who are on a trial of the Voice Plan can also continue using it for the duration of their first billing cycle.

Apple has not given any explanation for why it decided to end the Apple Music Voice Plan, so we don’t know if it was due to low demand, or simply Apple’s wish to increase its revenue. On a support page about the change, the company says:

Starting from November, Apple will stop offering the Apple Music Voice plan. We are committed to providing our customers with the best, most rich music experience possible, with features like immersive Spatial Audio, Apple Music Sing with real-time lyrics, smart browse and discovery features, and much more. All Apple Music plans already work seamlessly with Siri, and we will keep improving this experience.

Apple suggests that those who are affected by the change should switch to another Apple Music plan such as Individual, Student or Family. The company also promotes Apple One which includes Apple Music, Apple TV+, and more.
