LONDON, UK: Newbury Racecourse PLC has announced that its Chief Executive, Julian Thick, will be leaving his position in March 2024 after more than a decade of service. Thick has agreed to stay until then to help with the transition and the search for a new leader.
Thick joined Newbury Racecourse as Chief Executive in 2013 and oversaw the completion of the racecourse infrastructure redevelopment, which transformed the venue into a world-class racing facility. He also increased the prize money available to owners and helped the racecourse cope with the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Dominic Burke, Chairman of Newbury Racecourse, thanked Thick for his contribution and said that the racecourse was in good financial health and had a very positive future ahead of it. He also wished Thick well in his future endeavours.
Thick said that it was a privilege to lead the team at Newbury Racecourse and that he was proud of what they had achieved together. He added that he intended to take some time out with his family next year before seeking a new challenge.
Newbury Racecourse is one of the UK’s leading racecourses and hosts around 30 fixtures a year, including the prestigious Weatherbys Super Sprint and the Ladbrokes Trophy. It also operates a hotel, a nursery, and a conference and events business.
