Workers at Heathrow Airport to take eight more days of strike

Security officers at Heathrow Airport are set to take eight more days of strike action in May over a pay dispute, according to Unite, the union representing them.

Members of the union will walk out on May 4, 5, 6, 9, 10, 25, 26, and 27. The strikes, which follow a 10-day action over Easter, will cause “inevitable disruption and delays” during a period when many people are expected to be traveling to the UK for the King’s coronation, the union warned.

Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said the dispute was likely to escalate, with more workers being balloted and disruption continuing throughout the summer.

Heathrow Airport said it had been engaged in talks with Unite for months and offered a 10% pay increase and a £1,150 lump sum payment since January. The airport expressed confidence in keeping operations running smoothly during the planned strikes.

Heathrow Airport is set to experience further disruption next month. Members of the union will walk out for eight days from May 4 to May 27, in what is expected to cause “inevitable disruption and delays” for passengers. The 1,400 security officers involved in the dispute have already staged 10 days of strikes over Easter.
