BRISBANE – Australian minerals explorer KGL Resources Ltd said on Thursday it has appointed seasoned mining executive Sam Strohmayr as its chief executive officer, effective late January 2026, to steer its flagship Jervois Project.
Strohmayr brings three decades of global mining and metallurgical leadership, most recently serving as Chief Operating Officer for Glencore Zinc Australia until April 2025. In that role, he oversaw major assets including the Mount Isa Complex, McArthur River Mine, and the Townsville Refinery.
His career highlights include leading Glencore’s South American operations across Peru, Bolivia, and Argentina, driving operational ramp-ups and environmental compliance, and contributing to metallurgical innovations such as the PBOX process.
KGL also announced it will establish an operations office in Darwin in early 2026 to strengthen government and stakeholder relations in the region.
Strohmayr will receive a fixed annual remuneration of A$450,000, inclusive of superannuation, and is eligible for short-term incentives of up to 30% of his base salary, subject to board discretion and shareholder approval for equity-based components.
The appointment comes as KGL advances its Jervois Copper-Silver-Gold Project in the Northern Territory.
“With his proven track record in operational excellence, safety leadership, and stakeholder engagement, Sam will play a pivotal role in guiding the Jervois Project through development and construction and into operations and sustainability,” the company said in a statement.
Strohmayr holds a Bachelor of Minerals Processing Engineering from the University of Queensland and is a Fellow of Engineers Australia.
