AMSTERDAM: Avantium N.V., a leader in renewable polymer materials, has partnered with the Bottle Collective to showcase fiber bottles made using Dry Molded Fiber (DMF) technology, the company announced.
Avantium’s plant-based polymer PEF (polyethylene furanoate) will be integrated into the bottle production process, enhancing sustainability and barrier performance.
The Bottle Collective, launched in 2023 by PA Consulting and PulPac, utilizes proprietary DMF technology to produce fiber-based packaging with lower carbon emissions than plastic and minimal water use. In 2024, Logoplaste joined the initiative, specializing in injection molding and blowing, while global brands—including Diageo, Opella, and Haleon—have signed on to support development.
Avantium’s PEF will be used for injection molding and blowing liners, offering high mechanical strength and superior barrier properties that improve shelf life and reduce packaging material.
“We’re pleased to have Avantium join us as a technical partner,” said Keith Thornley, commercial lead for Dry Molded Fiber collectives at PA Consulting. “This partnership aligns with our mission to reshape the environmental impact of packaging.”
Logoplaste CTO Paulo Correia called Avantium’s polymer a “high-performance” material that reinforces the sustainability of fiber bottles, while Avantium’s Director of Business Development Bineke Posthumus said the collaboration would “fast-track the development” of innovative fiber bottles.
PA Consulting is working to scale the technology globally.
