FREMANTLE: Carnegie Clean Energy Limited (ASX: CCE) announced Thursday a partnership with global industrial leader SKF to collaborate on the Power Take-Off (PTO) system for Carnegie’s CETO wave energy technology.
The agreement includes SKF manufacturing three PTO units for the ACHIEVE Programme, a key step in commercializing the renewable energy solution.
The PTO system, critical for converting wave energy into electricity, will be deployed at the Biscay Marine Energy Platform (BiMEP) in Spain’s Basque Country in 2025. The project aims to validate CETO’s performance over two years, advancing its path to commercialization.
SKF, a rotating equipment specialist with a growing presence in ocean energy, previously worked with Carnegie on early design phases under a Development Agreement.
The partnership aligns with SKF’s strategic expansion into wave energy and follows its 2024 role as a Lead Partner of Ocean Energy Europe, where Carnegie is also a member.
“Carnegie is one of the leading wave energy developers globally,” said Michael Baumann, SKF’s Global Application Account Manager for Ocean Energy. “We’re proud to evolve from component supplier to delivering fully integrated systems.”
Carnegie CEO Jonathan Fievez highlighted SKF’s manufacturing capacity as vital for scaling CETO technology, calling the collaboration a reinforcement of Carnegie’s supply chain.
The ACHIEVE Programme is backed by European and Spanish funding, including support from the Basque Energy Agency and the EU’s Horizon 2020 program. EuropeWave, a key initiative under the European Green Deal, aims to deploy 100 megawatts of ocean energy by 2027.
