The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) held talks with leading digital marketplaces, PakWheels and OLX Pakistan, to address concerns over anti-competitive practices and deceptive marketing in the country’s growing online economy.
The discussions focused on ensuring fair competition and consumer protection in digital marketplaces. Representatives from both platforms met with regulators to outline compliance measures and improve transparency.
During the meeting with PakWheels, CEO Suneel Munj and his team detailed the platform’s expanded services, including auto-financing, insurance and vehicle verification.
The CCP raised concerns over misleading promotional campaigns, particularly involving third-party products such as auto loans, parts and insurance. Both sides agreed to develop sector-specific guidelines to enhance consumer safeguards. The commission also stressed the need for stricter oversight of electric vehicle-related claims.
In talks with OLX Pakistan, the CCP highlighted issues such as fake job postings, fraudulent schemes and multi-level marketing scams. The company agreed to improve its content moderation, including faster removal of flagged ads and clearer warnings about prohibited practices under Pakistan’s Competition Act, 2010.
The CCP has recently taken enforcement actions against deceptive marketing, including penalties in the automobile sector. The regulator said it remains committed to fostering fair competition across all industries, including the digital marketplace.
