HOUSTON: Kosmos Energy (NYSE/LSE: KOS) acknowledged the announcement Thursday from bp plc that the first cargo of liquefied natural gas (LNG) has been successfully loaded from the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) LNG project, located offshore Mauritania and Senegal.
The shipment was transferred to the LNG carrier “British Sponsor” from Golar LNG’s floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) vessel, stationed approximately 10 kilometers offshore. The vessel liquefied and stored the gas before loading a full cargo of about 174,000 cubic meters of LNG. A second carrier is awaiting its turn near the hub terminal.
The milestone follows first gas production in late 2024 and the commencement of LNG production in February. The first cargo lifting marks the point at which Kosmos Energy and its partners begin recognizing revenue from the project. The FLNG vessel has a nameplate capacity of 2.7 million tonnes per annum.
Kosmos Energy Chairman and CEO Andrew G. Inglis called the shipment a “significant milestone,” affirming that Mauritania and Senegal are now gas-exporting nations through the GTA project. Inglis added that Kosmos, bp, SMH and PETROSEN continue working to ramp up production to full capacity and explore expansion opportunities that build on the existing infrastructure.
