WELLINGTON: Mercury NZ Limited’s Chief Executive, Stew Hamilton, has announced significant changes to the company’s Executive Leadership Team to support its new three-year objectives.
Mr. Hamilton, who has been in the role for about two months, emphasized the importance of engaging with team members and stakeholders to steer Mercury’s growth.
Two existing roles have been promoted to the executive team and will report directly to Mr. Hamilton.
Matt Tolcher, previously General Manager of Generation Development, is now the Executive General Manager of Generation Development.
Tim Thompson, formerly General Manager of Wholesale, is appointed as Executive General Manager of Wholesale.
These appointments highlight the strategic focus on expanding renewable energy and managing the supply and demand portfolio to support New Zealand’s transition to a low-carbon future.
Phil Gibson, currently Executive General Manager Portfolio, will take on a new role as Executive General Manager Strategic Affairs.
This position will emphasize critical strategic objectives, including supporting supply security challenges within the industry.
Lucie Drummond, the current Executive General Manager Sustainability, will step down in April 2025 after 13 years with Mercury. She will continue to lead as Chief Sustainability Officer until a replacement is found. Mr. Hamilton thanked her for her significant contributions to Mercury’s strategic direction.
William Meek, Craig Neustroski, and Fiona Smith will continue in their roles as Chief Financial Officer, Chief Operating Officer – Customer, and Chief People Experience & Technology Officer, respectively. Recruitment for the Chief Financial Officer position is ongoing. These changes will take effect from November 11, 2024.
Mr. Hamilton expressed confidence in the solid foundations and talented team at Mercury, stating that these leadership changes will help the company achieve its commitments to people, partners, owners, and the wider community in Aotearoa, New Zealand.
