PARIS: During Belgian Energy Minister Tinne Van der Straeten’s visit to TotalEnergies’ Antwerp refinery, the energy giant unveiled plans for a new battery storage project in Feluy, Belgium.
This initiative, featuring a 25 MW power rating and 75 MWh capacity courtesy of Saft’s lithium-ion technology, is set to launch by late 2025.
With a €70 million investment, TotalEnergies aims to double its Belgian storage capabilities to 50 MW / 150 MWh.
The projects underscore Belgium’s commitment to energy resilience, offering grid flexibility and fostering renewable energy growth.
Olivier Jouny, Senior VP of Integrated Power, highlighted the alignment with TotalEnergies’ global electricity strategy and Saft’s European leadership in battery production.
TotalEnergies, a key electricity player in Belgium, serves 900,000 customers and generates power through various sources, including a CCGT plant, hydroelectric storage, and an offshore wind farm.
The company’s electric mobility footprint includes over 10,000 charging points nationwide, supporting the transition to sustainable energy.
