Nothing Phone (2a) launch date and design revealed by Carl Pei

Nothing, the new brand founded by former OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei, has announced the launch date for its upcoming mid-range smartphone, the Nothing Phone (2a). The device will be officially unveiled on Tuesday 5 March 2024 at 11:30 GMT, after the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona.

The brand has also released a new YouTube video in which Pei discusses the vision and philosophy behind Nothing, as well as teasing some design details of the Nothing Phone (2a). The video shows a placeholder image of the rear of the device, which features a camera unit in the top centre and a circular design around it. The circle may or may not contain a trimmed down version of the Glyph, the distinctive logo of Nothing.

The Nothing Phone (2a) is expected to be a mid-range smartphone that will compete with the likes of OnePlus, Xiaomi, and Samsung in the affordable segment. Rumours suggest that the device will retail for just over £300, and will offer a decent performance and battery life.

The design of the Nothing Phone (2a) is also different from the Nothing Phone (2), the flagship smartphone that Nothing launched last year. The Nothing Phone (2) had a unique transparent back that revealed some of the internal components of the device, as well as a camera unit in the top left corner. The Nothing Phone (2a) seems to have a more conventional and minimalist design, although it may still have some surprises in store.

Nothing has not revealed much else about the specifications or features of the Nothing Phone (2a), but fans can expect to learn more in the coming weeks. Pei and Nothing have a history of revealing information gradually before the official launch, as they did with the Nothing Phone (2) and the Nothing Ear (1), the wireless earbuds that Nothing released in 2023.

The Nothing Phone (2a) launch event will be streamed live on Nothing’s website and social media channels on Tuesday 5 March 2024 at 11:30 GMT. Stay tuned for more updates on Nothing’s latest smartphone.
