Italian technology company Bending Spoons has completed its acquisition of Meetup, the US-based platform that connects people with common interests. Meetup has over 60 million members worldwide who join groups and events based on their passions.
Bending Spoons, which owns popular apps such as Remini, Splice, and Evernote, plans to use its proprietary technologies and expertise to enhance Meetup’s features and reach. Bending Spoons co-founder and CEO Luca Ferrari said he was excited to become the new steward of Meetup, a product that aligns well with his company’s values and strengths.
Meetup CEO David Siegel, who will become a Bending Spoons advisor, praised Bending Spoons for its track record of driving growth in its acquired properties. He said Bending Spoons was the best partner to accelerate Meetup’s international expansion, membership growth, organizer experience, and mission of ending the loneliness crisis.
As part of the acquisition, Bending Spoons also announced the Meetup Community Fund, a $50,000 initiative to support exceptional Meetup organizers who have contributed to the global Meetup community. The fund will help their groups thrive and continue to create authentic human connections.
