PayPal, the leading payments company, has announced the appointment of Simon Bladon as its new UK CEO. He is the former managing director of customer and digital at Barclays, where he worked for more than two decades.
According to a repot, Bladon joined Barclays in 2004 as the head of legal for EMEA and later became the managing director and head of risk, governance and control of the investment division. He also spearheaded the establishment of Barclays Ventures, an innovation unit within the bank.
Bladon’s arrival at PayPal follows the departure of Dan Schulman, who served as the CEO and president of PayPal for many years. Alex Chriss, the former chief product officer of PayPal, replaced Schulman as the global CEO in September.
Bladon expressed his excitement about joining PayPal on LinkedIn, saying: “PayPal is an organisation with incredible heritage, reach and ambition to help millions of people and small businesses fulfil their dreams, ambitions and goals through accessing and thriving in the global financial economy.”
He added: “I’m very much looking forward to meeting my new colleagues and together playing a part in realising PayPal’s mission in the UK.”
The appointment of Bladon, which is pending regulatory approval, also entails him becoming the VP of PayPal’s global entity management.
