LONDON, UK: GKN Aerospace, a division of Melrose Industries PLC, has announced a new agreement with GE Aerospace, the global leader in aerospace engines, that will increase its participation in the GEnx programme and other GE engine platforms.
The new agreement covers four areas: an expanded risk and revenue sharing partnership (RRSP) on the GEnx engine, which includes greater involvement in the aftermarket phase; new technology insertion, especially with additive fabrications, to help reduce cost and carbon emissions; aftermarket repair of complex structural components for GEnx as part of GE’s global repair network; and production of fan cases for GEnx, CF6, GE90 and GE9X engines.
The agreement is expected to generate around $5 billion of incremental sales for GKN Aerospace over the 30 year+ life of the GEnx engine. The benefits will be more significant in the medium term as GEnx aftermarket activities increase and new GKN technology enters the GE engine fleet.
Simon Peckham, Melrose CEO, said: “This agreement illustrates the unique breadth and quality of our business across the aerospace engines industry and its position as a technology leader. We very much look forward to deepening our relationship with GE.”
