Safer and faster gold analysis goes global with MSALABS, Barrick and Chrysos partnership

A new partnership between MSALABS, Barrick Gold and Chrysos Corporation will bring PhotonAssay™ technology, a safer and faster way of analysing gold samples, to Barrick’s mines around the world.

The three companies have already been working together successfully in Africa, where PhotonAssay™ has replaced the old and dangerous fire assay method. Now, they will expand their collaboration to four continents, starting with the Nevada Gold Mines complex in the USA, which is the world’s biggest gold-mining operation.

By the end of 2025, up to 13 PhotonAssay™ units could be deployed to Barrick’s projects, depending on the outcome of due diligence.

The leaders of the three companies expressed their excitement about the partnership and the benefits of PhotonAssay™. Dirk Treasure, the CEO of Chrysos, said that Barrick’s global adoption of their technology was a milestone for them and a proof of PhotonAssay’s superiority. Simon Bottoms, Barrick’s executive in charge of mineral resource management and evaluations, said that they were happy to extend their partnership with Chrysos and MSALABS and use their innovative technology in their global operations. Stuart Thomson, the CEO of MSALABS, said that the partnership reflected the teamwork that had led to the smooth integration of PhotonAssay™ into Barrick’s mine sites in Africa since 2021. He also said that MSALABS had continued to develop and improve their system with copper assaying and robotic solutions, enhancing its capability, safety and productivity.
