BT Group CEO Philip Jansen to step down within a year

LONDON, UK: BT Group plc, the UK’s leading telecommunications and network provider, has announced that its Chief Executive Philip Jansen plans to leave his role within the next 12 months.

Jansen, who joined BT Group in February 2019, has informed the Board of his intention to step down at an appropriate moment over the next year. The Board said it was fully supportive of Jansen and the long-term strategy that he and his team are pursuing. It also said that it was well prepared for the succession process and expected to update the market on progress over the course of the summer.

Jansen said he was proud of what he and his team had achieved to date, highlighting the significant investments in fibre broadband, 5G mobile service and customer service. He said he was fully committed to driving the business forward until he handed over to his successor.

BT Group is one of the UK’s largest companies, with over 100,000 employees and revenues of £21.3 billion in the year ended 31 March 2021. It operates in four segments: Consumer, Enterprise, Global and Openreach. Its brands include BT, EE, Plusnet and BT Sport. It is also a major partner of the UK government in delivering public services such as NHS Test and Trace and the Emergency Services Network.
