Google has announced three new Pixel devices at its I/O 2023 developer conference today: the Pixel 7a, the Pixel tablet, and the Pixel Fold. The latter is Google’s first foldable phone and the most expensive Pixel device ever.
Pixel 7a
The Pixel 7a is the latest addition to Google’s A-series of affordable phones. It costs $499 and comes with many features found on Google’s premium Pixel phones, such as Face Unlock, wireless charging, and the Tensor G2 chip. The Pixel 7a also features a 6.1-inch OLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate, a dual rear camera system with a 64MP wide camera and a 13MP ultra-wide camera, and a 4300 mAh battery that can last up to 72 hours with the Extreme Battery Saver mode.
The Pixel 7a supports AI-powered features such as Magic Eraser and Photo Unblur in Google Photos, as well as Pixel Speech features such as Live Translate, Recorder Speaker Labels, Assistant Voice Typing, and Voice Messaging Transcription on the Messages app.
The Pixel 7a is available for purchase on the Google Store today, and Google is offering free Pixel Buds A-Series and a limited-edition phone case with all purchases.
Pixel tablet
The Pixel tablet is Google’s first Android tablet with built-in Google Cast functionality. It features an 11-inch LCD screen with a resolution of 2560×1600 pixels, a Google Tensor G2 chip with a Titan M2 security coprocessor, 8GB of RAM, and up to 256GB of storage. There are also two 8 MP cameras on the back and the front of the tablet that support AI-powered features such as Magic Eraser and Photo Unblur.
The Pixel tablet comes with a Charging Speaker Dock that can turn the tablet into a smart home controller or digital photo frame, similar to Google’s Nest Hub smart screens. The Pixel tablet is also optimized for over 50 Google apps and third-party apps like Spotify and Disney+.
The Pixel tablet is available for pre-order starting today in several countries and will start shipping next month on June 20. It starts at $499.
Pixel Fold
The Pixel Fold is Google’s first foldable device and the most premium Pixel device ever. It costs $1,799 and competes directly with Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 4. The Pixel Fold features a 5.8-inch OLED exterior screen with a resolution of 1080×2400 pixels and a 120Hz refresh rate, plus a 7.6-inch internal foldable OLED screen with a resolution of 1768×2208 pixels and a 120Hz refresh rate.
The Pixel Fold comes with the same Tensor G2 and Titan M2 chips as the other new Pixel devices, but it features 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage. It also boasts the best cameras ever seen on a foldable phone with a triple rear camera system that includes a 10.8 MP ultrawide lens, a main 48 MP lens, and a 5x folded telephoto lens. There’s also a 9.5 MP camera on the exterior screen and an 8 MP inner camera.
The Pixel Fold is optimized for Android to make apps take full advantage of the two screens. Users can also use two apps side by side or drag an app into split-screen mode using a dynamic taskbar at the bottom of the screen.
The Pixel Fold is now available for pre-order in four countries and will start shipping on June 27. If you’re in the US, Google is offering a free Pixel Watch ($349 value) with every purchase for a limited time.
