Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S23 FE may feature a powerful 50MP imaging sensor, according to sources familiar with the matter. While the company is heavily focused on the release of its next-gen foldable devices, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5, rumors suggest that the S23 FE will hit the market just a few months after the foldables.
Reports indicate that the S23 FE was originally rumored to be canceled, but this is no longer the case. Publications like SamMobile and GalaxyClub have confirmed that the phone is indeed in the works. GalaxyClub has reported that the S23 FE will feature a 50MP primary rear-facing camera, with no information yet available on the other cameras that will be included on the device.
While we don’t know much about the S23 FE’s camera capabilities, there is a good chance that it will borrow technology from the standard Galaxy S23 and S23 Plus, vastly improving the real-world photography and videography skills of the early 2022-released Galaxy S21 FE.
The S21 FE, which was released with a 12MP main camera, an 8MP telephoto sensor, and a 12MP ultra-wide-angle lens, didn’t quite match up to the high-end standards of 2023. Therefore, the rumored inclusion of a 50MP primary camera in the S23 FE is a significant upgrade that could boost the phone’s mass appeal.
However, it’s unclear when the S23 FE will hit the market. Reports suggest that it could be released “late in the year” or in early 2024. By then, the Galaxy S24 series will likely have been released, which could impact the S23 FE’s appeal to consumers.
One thing that could help the S23 FE stand out is an aggressive price point. If Samsung decides to equip the phone with an Exynos 2200 processor around the globe, as recent speculation suggests, the company will need to price the phone more aggressively than its predecessor, which was released with a recommended price point of $699 and up.
Ultimately, it’s too early to determine whether the S23 FE will be a hit among consumers. However, if Samsung can deliver a powerful camera and competitive pricing, the phone could become one of the best budget 5G phones in the world and compete against other mid-range devices like the OnePlus 10T and Google Pixel 7.
