OpenAI, a research company that develops artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, has launched a new feature called GPTs, which allows users to create and use custom versions of ChatGPT, its popular conversational AI model.
GPTs are designed to help users with various tasks and scenarios, such as teaching board games, giving writing feedback, suggesting recipes, teaching math, or providing tech support. Users can create their own GPTs without coding, by simply starting a conversation with ChatGPT, giving it instructions and extra knowledge, and picking what it can do, such as searching the web, making images, or analyzing data.
GPTs can also be connected to APIs to integrate external data or interact with the real world, such as connecting to an email inbox, processing e-commerce orders, or integrating a database. Users can also share their GPTs publicly or keep them private, and find other GPTs created by verified users in the GPT Store, which will be launched later this month.
OpenAI claims that GPTs are an accessible, responsibly designed, and multi-platform AI toolset that can enhance the creativity and productivity of users. The company also assures that users are in control of their data when using GPTs, and that harmful GPTs, such as those that involve fraudulent activity, hateful content, or adult themes, are prevented.
GPTs are an extension of the custom instructions feature that OpenAI launched in July 2023, which allows users to make adjustments to ChatGPT. GPTs are available to ChatGPT Plus and Enterprise customers, who can access them on the OpenAI website or app.
GPTs are a novel way of using AI to assist users with various tasks and scenarios, and could potentially create a new ecosystem of AI-powered applications. However, they could also pose challenges and risks for certain industries and professions that rely on human expertise and creativity.
