TotalEnergies starts up its largest solar farm in the US

Posted on October 24, 2023October 24, 2023

PARIS, FRANCE: TotalEnergies, a French energy giant, has launched Myrtle Solar, a massive solar farm with battery storage in Texas. The farm has a capacity of 380 MWp of solar power and 225 MWh of batteries, enough to supply green electricity to 70,000 homes.

Most of the farm’s output will go to TotalEnergies’ own industrial plants in the US Gulf Coast region, as part of its “Go Green” Project to reduce its emissions. The rest will be sold to Kilroy Realty, a real estate firm, under a 15-year contract.

The farm also has 114 Energy Storage Systems (ESS) containers, made by TotalEnergies’ affiliate Saft, to stabilize the grid. The project benefits from the IRA Tax Credit mechanisms and will boost TotalEnergies’ profitability.

Vincent Stoquart, Senior Vice President of Renewables at TotalEnergies, said the farm was the company’s largest in the US and a milestone in its goal to build a profitable position in Texas. He added that the company would continue to develop its 25 GW portfolio of projects in the US to reach its global target of more than 100 TWh by 2030.
