OVERATH: Copeland, a global leader in sustainable climate solutions, announced Friday it has reached an agreement to acquire SPH Sustainable Process Heat, a Germany-based industrial heat pump technology company.
The acquisition is expected to strengthen Copeland’s industrial heating portfolio, enabling broader delivery of high-temperature heat pump solutions under its Vilter brand.
SPH will continue to operate independently until the transaction closes, which is expected by the end of 2025, subject to customary conditions.
“This broader portfolio positions Copeland well to expand our rapidly growing industrial business by helping address the world’s increasing demand for sustainable heating solutions,” said Ross B. Shuster, Copeland’s chief executive officer.
The deal reinforces Copeland’s commitment to supporting the global energy transition by replacing fossil-fuel systems with more efficient, electrified heating alternatives. SPH’s portfolio includes its proprietary ThermBooster™ technology and a range of solutions for industrial steam applications up to 180 degrees Celsius, using natural and low-global-warming-potential refrigerants.
Headquartered in Overath, SPH designs, manufactures and services heat pumps for industrial customers across multiple end-markets. The acquisition will allow Copeland to serve process segments requiring higher-temperature steam and expand its refrigerant capabilities for optimized performance and emissions reduction.
“The addition of SPH’s team and its differentiated technologies will enable us to serve a broader range of customers and applications,” Shuster said.
SPH’s founders—Andreas Muck, Tim Hamacher and Tor Hodne—welcomed the agreement, saying the partnership will accelerate industrial electrification and sustainability goals.
Spirax Group (LON: SPX), which currently holds a minority stake in SPH, will retain its share under Copeland’s ownership. Through its Steam Thermal Solutions Business, Spirax plans to expand SPH’s reach via its direct sales channels.
