BSF Enterprise partners with Sartorius to advance sustainable biotech innovations

LONDON: BSF Enterprise (BSFE), through its subsidiary 3D Bio-Tissues (3DBT), is pioneering the biotech landscape with innovative scaffold-free tissue engineered materials and patented macromolecular crowders.
These bio-inert additives, City-Mix™ for the alternative protein industry and CytoBoost™ for the biopharma sector, optimize cell growth without the need for expensive growth factors or animal serum, representing a significant step forward in sustainable biotechnology.
In a move to accelerate these advancements, 3DBT has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sartorius, a global leader in bioprocess solutions. This strategic partnership aims to drive innovation and efficiency in developing sustainable production methods.
The collaboration will focus on enhancing production efficiency and sustainability, aligning with industry goals of balancing affordability with environmental responsibility. Sartorius will support 3DBT with cell culture platforms, technologies, and technical expertise for the large-scale production of cells and tissues used in 3DBT’s lab-grown meat and leather products over the next 12 months.
Dr. Che Connon, Managing Director of BSF Enterprise, stated, “Partnering with Sartorius is pivotal. Their expertise, combined with our innovative additives, opens the door to cost-effective, sustainable production solutions for the alternative protein and lab-grown leather industries. This partnership has the potential to achieve scalability at reduced costs.”
Dr. Érica Schulze, Business Development Manager at Sartorius, added, “Our commitment to sustainability and innovation aligns perfectly with our partnership goals. We are excited to contribute to advancements in alternative protein technology and sustainability.”
BSF Enterprise PLC develops cutting-edge tissue-engineered solutions, including lab-grown leather, cultivated meat, and corneal repair technologies, aiming to deliver sustainable alternatives to traditional materials.
Sartorius is a leading partner in the biopharmaceutical industry, supporting the development and production of biotech drugs and vaccines, with extensive experience in the food and beverage industry, particularly in novel foods like cultivated meats and dairy alternatives.
This MoU represents a significant step towards delivering breakthrough solutions for the biotech industry, positioning BSF to drive innovation, reduce production costs, and advance sustainability in high-growth markets.
