TotalEnergies and SINOPEC deepen ties with new energy pact

Posted on May 7, 2024May 7, 2024

PARIS: In a significant move during the Chinese President’s state visit to France, energy giants TotalEnergies and SINOPEC have inked a strategic agreement to enhance collaboration in low-carbon energy sectors. The deal, signed by TotalEnergies’ CEO Patrick PouyannĂ© and SINOPEC’s Chairman Ma Yongsheng, marks a continuation of their longstanding partnership, which spans operations in Angola, Brazil, and various other domains.

The alliance recently led to the creation of a sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production facility in China, capable of producing 230,000 tons annually. The new agreement is set to further leverage the companies’ combined research and development prowess in biofuels, green hydrogen, carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS), and broader decarbonization efforts.

Celebrating TotalEnergies’ centennial, the strengthened partnership aims to meet the increasing global energy demand while paving the way for a decarbonized future. Both leaders expressed their commitment to exploring new opportunities in sustainable aviation fuel, green hydrogen, and CCUS, reinforcing their dedication to a low-carbon, sustainable industrial growth.
