Brazil is a country that is not only rich in natural resources, but also in its commitment to sustainability and environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices. According to a recent report by Information Services Group (ISG), a leading global technology research and advisory firm, Brazil is demonstrating leadership and innovation in its sustainability and ESG agenda, especially in the regulatory sphere.
The report, titled 2023 ISG Provider Lens™ Sustainability and ESG for Brazil, reveals that Brazilian enterprises are pioneers in taking important steps toward realizing an ecological transformation agenda. Brazil was the first country in the world to adopt the global standards issued by the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) into its regulatory framework, a move that has increased the demand for sustainability solutions throughout the country.
The report also highlights the role of service providers in helping enterprises achieve their sustainability and ESG goals. Service providers are increasingly recognizing the importance of sustainability and have an unprecedented opportunity to lead the transition to a greener future, the report says.
However, the report also points out the challenges and uncertainties that enterprises face in fulfilling their sustainability and ESG commitments and in communicating them effectively to their stakeholders. The report suggests that enterprises need to adopt new ESG rating methodologies that give more weight to social and governance factors, such as human rights, labor practices and board diversity, in addition to environmental factors.
The report also emphasizes the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to develop new ESG ratings and benchmarking methodologies that are more accurate, efficient and unbiased. By using standardized ESG ratings across industries, enterprises can measure their sustainability performance against their peers, identify areas for improvement and set sustainability targets, the report says.
The report also examines the shortage of qualified professionals in key sectors, such as sustainability strategy, renewable energy and sustainable waste management. The report evaluates the capabilities of 81 providers across five quadrants: Strategy and Enablement Services, Technology Solutions and Implementation Services – IT, Technology Solutions and Implementation Services – OT, Data Platforms and Managed Services and Rating and Benchmarking Services.
The report names the leaders and rising stars in each quadrant, based on their portfolio and potential. The report is a valuable resource for enterprises that are looking for strategic partners that can offer specialized solutions and services to help them integrate sustainable practices into their operations.
