SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA: National Australia Bank (NAB) has announced that Andrew Irvine will take over as its Group Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director from 2 April 2024. He will replace Ross McEwan, who will retire after more than four years at the helm of the bank.
Mr Irvine, who joined NAB in 2020 as Group Executive Business and Private Banking, has been praised by NAB Chair Philip Chronican for his passion for customer service, people leadership, risk management and international experience. Mr Irvine previously worked for the Bank of Montreal, McKinsey & Company, Lycos Europe and Credit Agricole.
Mr Irvine said he was humbled and excited by the opportunity to lead NAB, a bank that serves millions of Australians and New Zealanders. He said he would continue to execute NAB’s strategic ambitions and grow its positive impact for customers, colleagues and shareholders.
Mr Chronican and Mr McEwan both congratulated Mr Irvine on his appointment and thanked each other for their contributions to NAB. Mr McEwan said he was confident to leave the bank in good hands with Mr Irvine and the team.
Mr Irvine will also become the Australian Banking Association Chair from December 2023, representing NAB as the Chair bank for two years. Mr Irvine holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Business Management and Commerce from King’s College London and a Master of Business Administration from INSEAD. He is a British-Canadian dual citizen.
