SAN FRANCISCO: Aurelian, a fast-growing AI startup specializing in non-emergency call automation for 911 centers, announced Thursday it has raised $14 million in Series A funding. The round was led by NEA, with continued support from Y Combinator, FUSE, Liquid 2, and Palm Drive Capital.
The company plans to use the investment to expand its reach among Emergency Communication Centers (ECCs) nationwide, addressing growing concerns over dispatcher burnout and staffing shortages.
“911 is in a crisis: severe understaffing and ever-expanding responsibilities have made ECCs overextended and overworked,” said Max Keenan, Aurelian’s CEO and cofounder. “Our sole purpose is to help them best serve their communities.”
Launched in May 2024, Aurelian’s AI assistant triages and resolves non-emergency calls—such as noise complaints, parking violations, and general inquiries—without involving human dispatchers. The system currently serves nearly 5 million Americans and automates an average of 74% of non-emergency calls, saving dispatchers roughly three hours per day.
NEA Partner Mustafa Neemuchwala praised the company’s rapid growth and mission-driven approach. “In a year, they’ve earned the trust and respect of ECCs across the United States and are already serving millions of people,” he said.
Aurelian’s platform supports over 35 languages and operates via voice, SMS, and web chat, helping ECCs better serve multilingual and underserved communities.
