Google on Wednesday launched its Pixel 10 smartphone lineup, spotlighting its Gemini AI assistant as the tech giant intensifies its push to lead the next wave of intelligent mobile devices.

The Pixel 10 family includes four models—Pixel 10 ($799), Pixel 10 Pro ($999), Pixel 10 Pro XL ($1,199), and the foldable Pixel 10 Pro Fold ($1,799)—each packed with new AI-driven features like “Magic Cue,” “Camera Coach,” and “Gemini Live.”

These tools aim to anticipate user needs, enhance photography, and enable real-time screen-based conversations.

The launch comes ahead of Apple’s expected iPhone reveal in September, and amid growing competition in the foldable phone market, where Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 is gaining traction. Google’s Fold model boasts an 8-inch inner display, dual-layer drop protection, and a reinforced hinge rated for over a decade of use.

While Pixel phones hold a modest market share, they serve as a showcase for Google’s Android innovations and AI ambitions. The Pixel 10 series includes a one-year subscription to Google’s “AI Pro” plan, offering premium Gemini features and early access to experimental tools.

Despite the buzz, analysts caution that AI hasn’t yet proven to be a decisive factor in smartphone sales. But with Apple delaying major Siri upgrades until 2026, Google sees an opening to win over AI-hungry users.

A cheeky Pixel ad released earlier this month took aim at Apple’s delays: “If you buy a new phone because of a feature that’s coming soon, but it’s coming soon for a full year… you could change your definition of soon, or change your phone.”

Whether Google’s AI-first strategy will shift consumer loyalty remains to be seen—but the Pixel 10 series marks a bold step in that direction.
