LONDON: Quadrise Fuels International (AIM: QED) has signed a joint development agreement with Alder Energy LLC, a U.S.-based biomass technology firm, to explore the use of Alder’s pyrolysis-derived products in biofuels for shipping and heavy industry.
Alder Energy, known as Alder Renewables, specializes in upgrading pyrolysis oil into stable Alder Renewable Crude and associated products such as Alder Pyrolysis Sugars (APS). Under the agreement, Quadrise and Alder will collaborate to test APS as a feedstock for Quadrise’s low-emission fuel solutions, bioMSAR™ and bioMSAR™ Zero.
Initial lab tests of APS at Quadrise’s research facility are expected to lead to diesel engine trials at Aquafuel later this year. If successful, the companies aim to conduct third-party marine engine tests within 12 months.
Jason Miles, Chief Technology Officer at Quadrise, said biomass-derived fuels present “some of the most cost-effective net-zero biofuel solutions,” citing the recognition of pyrolysis technology by the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping.
Alder CTO Derek Vardon called the partnership a “key step” in advancing sustainable marine fuel production, saying the collaboration will help integrate low-carbon solutions into global shipping.
Quadrise has expanded its presence in North America through agreements with multiple partners. The company expects to provide further updates on developments under the new deal.
