PARIS: TotalEnergies has acquired a portfolio of renewable energy projects in the U.K. from developer Low Carbon, the company announced Tuesday.
The deal includes eight solar projects with a combined capacity of 350 megawatts and two battery storage projects totaling 85 megawatts. The solar projects, in an advanced development stage, are expected to be operational by 2028. Once completed, they will generate more than 350 gigawatt-hours of renewable electricity annually—enough to power approximately 100,000 U.K. households.
The projects, located in southern England, will expand TotalEnergies’ integrated power portfolio in the U.K., which includes 1.1 gigawatts of offshore wind capacity, 1.3 gigawatts of gas-fired power generation and over 600 megawatts of solar projects under development.
“This acquisition strengthens our position in the U.K. renewable energy market,” said Olivier Jouny, senior vice president of renewables at TotalEnergies.
Roy Bedlow, CEO and founder of Low Carbon, said the agreement reflects TotalEnergies’ commitment to renewable infrastructure and supports the U.K. government’s goal of achieving clean power by 2030.
TotalEnergies has operated in the U.K. for more than 60 years, employing over 1,800 people. The company is a major energy supplier, providing electricity, natural gas and electric vehicle charging solutions, as well as petroleum products.
Its U.K. renewable portfolio includes 1.1 gigawatts of operational offshore wind capacity and 4.5 gigawatts of projects in development. The company also holds a 50% stake in a 1.3-gigawatt gas power plant.
