SOUTHAMPTON: AccelerComm, a leader in high-performance 5G technology for satellite networks, has closed a $15 million funding round to advance its direct-to-device (D2D) communications solutions.

The investment, led by IP Group plc (LSE: IPO), will support the development and deployment of AccelerComm’s 5G satellite communications products, enabling seamless connectivity between mobile devices and space-based networks. IP Group contributed £3 million from its balance sheet and £4.5 million through its Parkwalk and Hostplus managed funds. Other backers include IQ Capital, Swisscom Ventures’ digital transformation fund and Bloc Ventures.

Following the funding round, IP Group holds a 26.6% undiluted stake in AccelerComm, with an additional 21.2% held through its managed funds.

The company also announced the appointment of David Helfgott as CEO, bringing over two decades of leadership in wireless and satellite communications. Helfgott previously served as CEO of SmartSky Networks, a provider of inflight connectivity, and held executive roles at Inmarsat Government and SES Government.

“AccelerComm’s technology is pivotal in delivering 5G services from space,” Helfgott said. “With growing interest from mobile operators and satellite networks, we’re poised to drive this transformation.”

The funding will accelerate partnerships with key industry players, including Lockheed Martin, which is integrating AccelerComm’s solutions into its regenerative 5G NTN base station for satellite payloads.

Henny Sands, Head of Telecommunications at the UK Space Agency, praised the investment, stating, “Non-terrestrial networks are reshaping connectivity, and UK innovators like AccelerComm are at the forefront.”

Lee Thornton, Partner (Deeptech) at IP Group, added, “AccelerComm’s cutting-edge technology positions it for significant growth in the expanding low-earth-orbit satellite market.”
