JAKARTA: The Indonesian Coast Guard (Bakamla) has officially launched its National Maritime Security System (NMSS) project, a €167 million initiative in partnership with SRT Marine Systems plc, the company announced Tuesday.
The project, which is set to unfold over two years, aims to enhance Indonesia’s maritime surveillance, command, control and communication capabilities. The system will provide real-time monitoring of the country’s exclusive economic zone and territorial waters, using proprietary AI-driven intelligence to detect illicit activities such as illegal fishing and smuggling, according to SRT.
“This project delivers a sovereign national capability owned and operated by the government of Indonesia that enables them to build up a massive national dataset within a system they own, control and operate,” said Simon Tucker, CEO of SRT Marine Systems.
The NMSS initiative includes multiple command centers, coastal surveillance towers equipped with multi-sensor technology, long-range drones and patrol vessel integrations, all working within the single SRT-MDA maritime C5iSR system.
The project will be implemented in phases, followed by eight years of continued support, maintenance and data services. The system is expected to serve as a foundation for future expansions in maritime surveillance and intelligence capabilities.
