LONDON: CapAI plc (LSE: CPAI) announced Tuesday that it has entered into a strategic alliance agreement with U.S.-based venture capital firm R42 Group, Inc., in a move aimed at expanding early-stage artificial intelligence (AI) development opportunities.

The AI alliance, effective June 1, strengthens CapAI’s three-pillar operating strategy of identifying, incubating, and inventing AI innovations. Under the agreement, CapAI secures the right of first refusal to jointly develop select R42 projects, providing shareholders structured access to AI opportunities typically limited to private venture channels.

CapAI and R42 will also collaborate on incubating external AI projects outside their existing portfolios, leveraging combined expertise and resources. While the alliance primarily focuses on media and medicine, it allows flexibility to pursue high-growth AI innovations across broader sectors.

Among the AI projects currently under review are an AI-powered book-to-movie adaptation platform, a book-to-game technology system, an AI media creator capable of generating books and screenplays, and AI-driven medical research aimed at addressing cellular aging. Automated AI scientific research tools designed to accelerate discovery processes are also part of the development pipeline.

CapAI Executive Chairman Richard Edwards called the alliance “a major step forward in executing our refined operating strategy,” adding that it establishes a “powerful transatlantic innovation platform.”

Professor Ronjon Nag, founder of R42 and CapAI executive director, said the collaboration would help commercialize breakthrough technologies by linking entrepreneurial AI ventures with public market access.

The agreement constitutes a material related-party transaction under regulatory guidelines, with independent CapAI directors voting to approve its terms. Nag recused himself from all deliberations related to the alliance.

CapAI said the move aligns with its commitment to transparent corporate governance while positioning the company to capitalize on emerging AI advancements.
