PARIS: TotalEnergies has inaugurated its largest solar power plant cluster in Europe, located near Sevilla, Spain. The project includes five solar plants with a combined capacity of 263 MW, capable of producing 515 GWh of renewable electricity annually—enough to power over 150,000 Spanish homes. The facility will also reduce CO₂ emissions by 245,000 tons per year.
Most of the electricity will be sold through long-term power agreements (PPAs), with the rest supplied to the wholesale market. The project, recognized as strategically important by Andalucía’s regional government, features 400,000 bifacial solar panels with tracking technology. It has boosted the local economy by involving 14 companies—more than half based in Sevilla—and creating 800 jobs.
Olivier Jouny, Senior Vice President of Renewables at TotalEnergies, thanked Spanish authorities for their support, noting the project aligns with Spain’s goal of 80% renewable energy by 2030. The company, which employs 1,700 people in Spain, is expanding its power portfolio with renewables and flexible gas plants. TotalEnergies is now Spain’s fourth-largest electricity and gas provider, serving over 2 million customers.
With 28 GW of installed renewable capacity as of March 2025, TotalEnergies aims to reach 35 GW by year-end and over 100 TWh of annual electricity production by 2030.
