SYDNEY: Nanoveu Limited (ASX: NVU), a leader in advanced semiconductor and materials science technology, announced a two-phase evaluation program for its ultra-low-power ECS-DoT system-on-chip (SoC) aimed at enhancing drone flight endurance and enabling real-time artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities.
The program, led by Nanoveu’s subsidiary EMASS, seeks to demonstrate significant improvements in energy efficiency and onboard AI processing for commercial drones.
Key Developments:
– Phase 1, currently underway, uses hardware-in-the-loop testing with the PX4/Gazebo platform to validate performance metrics, including a targeted 1.2x to 1.3x increase in flight time, a 15–25% improvement in energy efficiency, and up to a 50% reduction in data uplink requirements.
– Phase 2 will involve live drone trials to assess real-world applications, such as infrastructure inspection, autonomous landing, and swarm coordination.
– The ECS-DoT chip operates on less than 1 milliwatt of power, making it suitable for battery-limited drones and other edge devices.
The global drone market is projected to reach $163 billion by 2030, with Australia alone expecting 60 million annual drone flights by 2043. High-growth applications include delivery services, emergency response, and infrastructure monitoring.
“This phased approach ensures measurable outcomes,” said Dr. Mohamed M. Sabry Aly, founder of EMASS. “Phase 2 will take ECS-DoT from the lab to the skies, proving how embedded AI can transform UAV performance.”
Mark Goranson, CEO of Nanoveu’s Semiconductor Division, added, “ECS-DoT is a leap forward in energy-efficient AI. Its applications extend beyond drones to wearables, IoT sensors, and spatial computing.”
A technical report detailing the evaluation’s findings will be released, with EMASS seeking collaborations with aerospace integrators and research institutions.
