LONDON: Neo Energy Metals has appointed mining veteran Theo Botoulas as its new chief executive officer and executive director, the company announced Thursday. The move comes as the uranium developer accelerates growth, including its planned acquisition of the Beisa Uranium Project.
Botoulas, based in South Africa, brings more than 40 years of experience in mining operations, finance and asset management across Africa. He holds degrees in mining engineering and professional certifications in mine management. Over his career, he has led restructuring initiatives, turnaround strategies, and successful company listings.
His most recent roles include CEO of Andiamo Exploration, focused on volcanogenic massive sulfide deposits in East Africa, and project manager for Abyssinian Metals’ Kenticha lithium project in Ethiopia. Botoulas has also managed operations in South Africa’s Free State and Northern Cape provinces.
As part of the leadership overhaul, Sean Heathcote will transition to executive technical director, supporting Botoulas and the company’s management team. Botoulas will lead efforts to establish an experienced executive team to advance the Beisa Uranium Project toward production.
“I look forward to an exciting journey with Neo Energy in a world where nuclear energy generation and secure uranium production will be increasingly relied upon to meet growing demand,” Botoulas said in a statement.
Neo Energy aims to become South Africa’s largest uranium producer, positioning itself as a key player in the global shift toward nuclear energy as a sustainable base load power source.
