MONTEVIDEO: Atlantica Sustainable Infrastructure Ltd. has officially acquired a 132-mile transmission line in Uruguay, further strengthening its footprint in the region. This transmission line, operational since 2019, is under a lease agreement with Uruguay’s state-run electricity company, UTE, until 2049. As part of this deal, UTE pays a fixed tariff in U.S. dollars, adjusted monthly for inflation.
Atlantica’s CEO, Santiago Seage, described the asset as “100% contracted” with a “low-risk profile,” making it a seamless addition to the company’s existing transmission line portfolio in South America.
This acquisition brings Atlantica’s total transmission line assets in the region to 1,363 miles. Additionally, the company is working on expanding one of its current projects. In Uruguay, Atlantica operates solar and wind power plants with a combined installed capacity of 160 MW, reinforcing its strong relationship with UTE—a reliable counterparty with high credit ratings from major agencies, including S&P, Moody’s, and Fitch.
Atlantica Sustainable Infrastructure Ltd. is a global sustainable infrastructure company managing a diverse portfolio, including renewable energy, storage, efficient natural gas, electric transmission, and water assets across North America, Europe, and South America.
