MILAN: Stellantis NV said Tuesday it has stopped assembling the Leapmotor T03 electric vehicle at its plant in Tychy, Poland, and is evaluating alternative production options for the Chinese-made model.
Production of the small electric car ended March 30, the Franco-Italian automaker said in a statement. While Stellantis remains committed to launching Leapmotor vehicles in Europe, it did not provide details on whether the T03 would be relocated to another facility.
The decision follows the cancellation last year of plans to produce a second Leapmotor model, the B10 electric crossover, in Poland. Sources told Reuters in November that China had privately urged automakers to pause major investments in EU countries supporting tariffs on Chinese-made EVs. Poland backed the tariffs, while Spain—now favored for B10 production—abstained.
Stellantis holds a 51% stake in Leapmotor International, a joint venture with exclusive rights to sell and manufacture Leapmotor EVs outside China. The production halt was first reported Monday by French newspaper Les Echos.
No reason was given for discontinuing T03 assembly. Further updates on production plans were not immediately available.
