Illumination Entertainment and Nintendo Co. have announced a collaboration to produce a new animated film set in the Super Mario Bros. universe.
Slated for release on April 3, 2026, in the United States, with a phased global rollout throughout April, the film promises to bring the vibrant world of the beloved Italian plumber to the silver screen.
The project will be co-produced by Chris Meledandri, the founder and CEO of Illumination, and Shigeru Miyamoto, a representative director and Fellow at Nintendo.
The directorial reins have been handed to the dynamic duo of Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, with Matthew Fogel penning the script.
Universal Pictures is set to co-finance the venture alongside Nintendo and will handle the worldwide cinematic distribution.
