Rabbit Inc., a company that aims to create “the simplest computer” that anyone can use without learning, has launched a new product that has taken the tech world by storm.
The Rabbit r1 is a tiny device that can perform various tasks by using natural language commands, without the need to open any apps.
The r1 was announced at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2024 in Las Vegas, and it quickly became one of the most popular gadgets at the event.
According to the company, the r1 sold out within a day, with 10,000 orders placed on the first day of launch. This surpassed the company’s expectations, as they had hoped to sell 500 units on the first day.
The r1 is the result of a collaboration between Rabbit and Teenage Engineering, a Swedish consumer electronics company known for its quirky and innovative music-creation gear.
The r1 features a 2.88-inch touchscreen, an analog scroll wheel, a 360-degree rotating camera, far-field microphones, and a push-to-talk button. It runs on a custom operating system called Rabbit OS, which uses a natural language interface and a Large Action Model (LAM) that learns platforms and interfaces.
The r1 can be trained to interact with different apps and services, and it can store commands in its list of “rabbits”. The r1 is designed to be a seamless and intuitive interface between the user and the apps, with a focus on ease of use and simplicity. The r1 can do anything from booking a flight, ordering food, playing music, taking photos, and more, by just using voice commands.
The r1 also has a SIM card slot and is powered by a MediaTek Helio P35 SoC, which makes it a standalone device that can work without a smartphone. The r1 costs $199 and is available for pre-order on the company’s official website. The expected delivery timeframe is April – May 2024. Rabbit claims that the r1 is “the simplest computer” that anyone can use, and it seems that many people agree.
