LONDON, UK: MaxCyte, Inc., a leading cell-engineering company, announced today that Maher Masoud will take over as President and CEO from Doug Doerfler, who will retire on January 1, 2024.
Masoud, who currently serves as EVP, Head of Global Business Development and Chief Counsel, will also join the Board of Directors.
Doerfler founded MaxCyte in 1999 and led the company from its initial technology concept to the commercialization of its flow electroporation platform, which is used by many cell and gene therapy developers. He also oversaw the company’s public offerings on the UK AIM Exchange and U.S. NASDAQ Exchange, the development of the ExPERT instrument portfolio, and the approval of CASGEVYTM, the first non-viral cell therapy product approved by the FDA.
Richard Douglas, chairman of the board, praised Doerfler’s leadership and contributions to MaxCyte and expressed confidence in Masoud’s ability to continue the company’s growth and success. Masoud has more than 25 years of experience in the biopharmaceutical industry and has been instrumental in expanding MaxCyte’s strategic partnerships. He has also supported the launch of three FDA approved therapies in his previous roles at Human Genome Sciences and Wellstat.
