Saint-Gobain signs solar power deal with CVE in South Africa

PARIS, FRANCE: Saint-Gobain, a global leader in building materials, has entered into a 20-year renewable electricity supply agreement with CVE, a French independent renewable energy producer.

The deal will provide Saint-Gobain with about 140 GWh of solar power per year, covering 40% of the electricity needs of its four major industrial sites in South Africa.

The agreement will help Saint-Gobain reduce its CO2 emissions by more than 6,800 tons per year and achieve its goal of carbon neutrality by 2050. Othman Benjelloun-Touimi, CEO of Saint-Gobain in Africa, said: “This renewable energy project is a new milestone on the way to meeting Saint-Gobain’s commitment to reduce scope 1 and 2 CO2 emissions by 33% by 2030 – compared to 2017.”

CVE South Africa specializes in decentralized energy projects for industrial, agricultural and municipal customers. René Laks, Country General Manager for CVE South Africa, said: “We are proud to support Saint-Gobain’s renewable energy commitment in South Africa.”
