Amazon launches new chatbot and safeguards for generative AI

Amazon has unveiled a new chatbot called Q that can help businesses with productivity, document summarization, and code editing. The chatbot, which can communicate via apps like Slack, is part of Amazon’s AWS cloud computing service.

The company also announced a new service called Guardrails for Bedrock, which allows users to filter out harmful or objectionable content from generative AI applications. Generative AI is a type of artificial intelligence that can create content such as text, images, or audio based on user prompts.

Amazon said the new service was important for customers to put limits they see fit on the generative AI they use. For example, a bank could prevent its online assistant from giving investment advice, or an e-commerce site could avoid hate speech or insults.

Amazon also said it would indemnify its customers against lawsuits based on the misuse of copyrighted materials by generative AI.

The announcements were made at Amazon’s annual cloud computing conference in Las Vegas on Tuesday. The conference attracted thousands of developers, customers, and partners of AWS, which is the market leader in cloud computing.
