Intel Xeon E-2400: Entry-Level Workstation CPUs Return After Two-Year Hiatus

Posted on October 17, 2023November 15, 2023

Intel has finally revealed the official specifications of its Xeon E-2400 Xeon entry-level workstation CPUs which are part of the Raptor Lake family. This marks the return of entry-level workstation chips from Intel after a two-year hiatus.

These are the latest entry-level workstation chips from Intel that are based on the Raptor Lake family, which also powers the 13th Gen Core desktop processors.

The Intel Xeon E-2400 CPUs are designed for professionals who need a reliable and powerful system for their workloads. They support the new LGA 1700 socket, which means they can work with the latest motherboards that offer DDR5 memory, PCIe Gen5 storage, and other enhancements. They also feature the Raptor Cove P-Cores, which are the same cores used in the Raptor Lake-S CPUs, but without the hybrid design. This means that all the cores are high-performance cores that can boost up to 5.6 GHz.

The Xeon E-2400 lineup consists of eight SKUs, ranging from 4 cores and 8 threads to 8 cores and 16 threads. The flagship model is the Xeon E-2488, which has a base frequency of 3.6 GHz and a max turbo frequency of 5.6 GHz. It has a TDP of 95W and supports up to 128 GB of DDR5-4800 memory. The other models have lower frequencies, TDPs, and memory support, but they all share the same Raptor Cove P-Core architecture.

The Intel Xeon E-2400 CPUs mark the return of entry-level workstation chips after a two-year hiatus. The last series was the Xeon E-2300, which was based on the Rocket Lake architecture and had a similar core configuration. However, the new series offers a significant improvement in performance, compatibility, and features, thanks to the Raptor Lake-E platform.

Intel has not officially announced the launch date or the pricing of the Xeon E-2400 CPUs yet, but they have been listed on the company’s support page since last month. We expect them to be available soon and to compete with AMD’s Ryzen Pro and Threadripper Pro workstation CPUs.
