Apple iPad mini 7 – What to expect from this compact powerhouse

Apple iPad mini 7 - A Compact Powerhouse

Apple enthusiasts have been eagerly awaiting the release of the seventh-generation iPad mini, and according to a recent DigiTimes report, their patience is about to be rewarded. This new iteration of the iPad mini is expected to hit the market later this year, defying earlier rumors that suggested no new iPad models would be launched in 2023.

The report highlights that Apple’s iPad shipments experienced a decline in the second quarter, resulting in two consecutive quarters of decline in combined shipment share. However, the share is projected to rebound during the second half of the year due to inventory replenishment needs and orders for a new small-size iPad.

Renowned Apple analyst Mark Gurman from Bloomberg also chimed in, suggesting that an update to the iPad mini line was indeed on the horizon. While he anticipates a minor spec bump, Gurman believes Apple might incorporate the A16 Bionic processor and enhance the camera capabilities of this device. It’s worth noting that the sixth-generation iPad mini already supports Apple Pencil 2 and USB-C.

One intriguing aspect of the upcoming iPad mini 7 is its potential departure from the landscape-oriented front-facing camera trend seen in other iPads. Given its compact size, users may find themselves utilizing this device more frequently in portrait mode.

Earlier this year, Ming-Chi Kuo, a reputable Apple insider, indicated that Apple had plans to launch the iPad mini 7 in Q1 2024. However, it seems that Apple has adjusted its timeline, as Kuo recently stated that no new iPads would be released this year.

While 2023 may not see any new iPads from Apple, there are exciting prospects on the horizon for 2024. The iPad Pro is expected to receive an OLED version featuring an M3 chip and a redesigned Magic Keyboard. Additionally, the iPad Air is likely to receive an M2 chip. As for the base-model iPad, it remains uncertain whether Apple will introduce a new generation or opt for a price reduction on the current $429 device.
