Western Digital launches new SSDs for Steam Deck and ROG Ally users

Western Digital has announced a new line of SSDs that are compatible with the Steam Deck and the ROG Ally, two handheld gaming consoles that are expected to launch later this year. The WD Black SN770M is a compact and fast M.2 2230 NVMe SSD that offers up to 2 TB of storage space.

The WD Black SN770M comes in three capacities: 500 GB, 1 TB, and 2 TB. The 1 TB model is the fastest, with sequential read and write speeds of up to 5,150 MB/s and 4,900 MB/s, respectively. The SSDs also have high endurance ratings, ranging from 300 TBW for the 500 GB model to 1,200 TBW for the 2 TB model. All SSDs have a five-year limited warranty.

The WD Black SN770M is designed to fit in the M.2 slot of the Steam Deck and the ROG Ally, which both ship with a 512 GB NVMe SSD as the largest storage option. Although Valve and Asus do not officially support user-replaceable SSDs, some hardware enthusiasts may want to upgrade their storage for more games and media.

The WD Black SN770M is available to buy from Western Digital’s store for $74.99 for the 500 GB model and $109.99 for the 1 TB model. The 2 TB model is currently out of stock but can be pre-ordered from Best Buy for $239.99 with a shipping date of September 22.
