TikTok launches online shopping in the US

TikTok announced on Tuesday that it has launched its e-commerce platform in the United States, following months of testing, as its Chinese-owner ByteDance seeks to leverage the social media app’s popularity.

TikTok users in the U.S., who number more than 150 million, can now access videos and live streams with links to buy products on their feed, as TikTok enables content creators, brands, and merchants to create content that can be shopped.

TikTok also introduced a shop tab, where businesses can showcase their products with logistics and payments solutions powered by TikTok.

The social media company said it has integrated its shopping service with various third-party platforms such as Shopify, Salesforce, and Zendesk, among others.

TikTok’s online marketplace, which has been reportedly in development in the U.S. since November, is already available in countries such as Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and the United Kingdom.
