The iPhone 15 series consists of four models: the iPhone 15, the iPhone 15 Plus, the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max. The iPhone 15 and 15 Plus have a 6.1-inch or 6.7-inch Super Retina display, respectively, with brightness of up to 2,000 nits. They have an advanced camera system that includes a 48MP main camera, a 2x telephoto lens and a wide-angle lens. They also have a new Dynamic Island feature that adjusts the focus and exposure automatically. The iPhone 15 and 15 Plus come in five colours: pink, green, yellow, blue and black.

The iPhone 15 series will be available for pre-order from September 17 and will start shipping on September 24. The prices are as follows: $799 (£640) for the iPhone 15, $899 (£720) for the iPhone 15 Plus, $999 (£800) for the iPhone 15 Pro and $1,099 (£880) for the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

The iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max have a titanium body that makes them the lightest and thinnest iPhones ever. They have a more sophisticated camera system that offers seven lenses in one device.

The main camera has a larger sensor that improves the performance in portraits and night mode. The telephoto lens has a 5x optical zoom that can reach up to 120mm focal length with f2.8 aperture. The camera also has an advanced stabilisation technology that can make up to 10,000 micro-adjustments per second. The iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max have a 6.1-inch or 6.7-inch screen, respectively, and come in four colours: black, white, blue and natural.

All the new iPhones run on Apple Silicon and are powered by the A16 bionic processor or the A17 Pro chip for the Pro models. Apple claims these are the fastest chips ever in a smartphone and will enable an advanced gaming experience. The new iPhones also have a USB-C port instead of the traditional Lightning port, making them compatible with EU regulations and other devices such as the new AirPods Pro 2. Apple said the switch was also part of its environmental commitment, as the aluminium frame is made of 75% recycled material and the battery contains 100% recycled cobalt.

Featuring iOS 17

iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max feature iOS 17,11 making iPhone even more personal and intuitive with new features:

  • The Phone app gets major updates, with Contact Posters that allow users to customize how they appear to their contacts, and Live Voicemail, which leverages the power of A17 Pro to see real-time on-device transcription as someone leaves a voicemail. Users can even pick up the call while the caller is leaving their message.
  • Messages gets a new stickers experience, more powerful search, transcription of audio messages, and Check In, which allows users to automatically notify friends and family when they have made it to their destination safely.
  • NameDrop gives users a new way to use AirDrop to more easily share contact information by simply bringing two iPhone devices together. The same gesture can be used to AirDrop content and more, and now users can step away from each other and finish sending large files over the internet.12
  • StandBy gives users a customizable full-screen experience with glanceable information designed to be viewed from a distance when iPhone is on its side and charging. With the Always-On display of iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, StandBy stays on to show useful information — perfect on a desk, nightstand, or kitchen counter.
  • Interactive widgets on the Home Screen, Lock Screen, and in StandBy allow users to take action with just a tap, making it easy to complete a to-do, or play or pause a song right from the widget.
  • Safari adds greater protection for Private Browsing and introduces profiles, helping users separate their browsing for topics like work and personal.

iOS 17 delivers many more updates, including Journal,13 a new app that helps iPhone users reflect and practice gratitude through journaling, improvements to autocorrect and Dictation that make entering text faster and easier than ever before, password and passkey sharing with iCloud Keychain, and much more.
